Your Guide to Diamond Shapes
At TenSevenSeven you can design the engagement ring that’s authentically yours, with your choice of ring setting, unique centre diamond, and precious metal. The shape you choose for your centre diamond can subtly or dramatically enhance the overall look of your ring, and it’s one of the key considerations to designing a bespoke ring that you love.
Your diamond shape refers to the overall appearance or outline of your diamond; not to be confused with its cut grade which details how well it has been cut (note, this only applies to round diamonds – no other diamond shapes receive a cut grade).
While it’s not graded, your diamond’s shape will affect the way it reflects and disperses light, how it appears on your hand, and importantly, the overall look of your bespoke ring. Certain diamond shapes will also better highlight particular diamond characteristics. For instance, a shape with fewer and less complex facets (such as emerald and asscher cuts) will highlight your diamond’s clarity, meaning inclusions could be more visible. Shapes with smaller and many facets, like round, oval, pear, and princess, tend to mask inclusions. And elongated shapes, such as oval, pear, and marquise, are perfect if you are seeking a larger look for your diamond carat weight.
At TenSevenSeven, we’ve carefully curated a range of diamonds for you to select from with premium colour and clarity grades, ensuring a beautiful look for whichever shape you choose. Discover our guide to our diamond shapes below.
Diamond Shape Guide
Round:
Probably the most recognisable diamond shape and certainly the most popular, round diamonds are beloved for their classic look and brilliance. This shape contains the greatest number of facets, which creates ample fire, brilliance and scintillation – especially in a diamond with a cut grade of Very Good or Ideal/ Excellent (all round diamonds at TenSevenSeven feature a minimum cut grade of Very Good). You can select this versatile shape in 12 of our ring settings.
Oval:
An elegant twist on the round diamond, ovals offer a comparable level of sparkle, while often appearing larger for their carat weight and creating an elongating effect on the finger. Look for ratios between 1.35 and 1.65 for the best balance. Choose your unique oval centre diamond in 13 of our compatible ring settings. For those who love this contemporary yet classic shape, make maximum impact with our Oval Trio Setting.
Pear:
Often referred to as a teardrop shape, the pear-shaped diamond is unique yet timeless, with an elongated effect and distinctive sparkle. For a perfectly balanced pear diamond, look for ratios between 1.45 and 1.75. You can choose your unique pear diamond to fit 12 of our settings. For the ultimate romantic look, consider our Alchemy Trio Setting which flanks your centre stone with two, east-west set pear diamonds.
Princess:
A sleek, modern, geometric shape that's popular for its brilliant sparkle. The princess cut offers a contemporary look with its clean lines, while embodying timeless elegance. Select your unique princess cut diamond to fit 11 of our settings, to complete the ring that’s authentically yours.
Cushion:
A vintage-inspired shape that conjures old-world romance. The cushion cut diamond is distinct for its square shape with smooth, rounded edges, giving a luxurious look. Choose your unique, cushion cut centre diamond to fit 11 of our expertly crafted engagement ring settings.
Emerald:
A modern and elegant choice, the emerald cut consists of a rectangular shape with long, narrow facets. The clean lines and minimalistic, step-cut facets of the emerald cut create a mirror-like glimmer. This shape highlights the clarity of your diamond, so it’s best to opt for the highest clarity grade you can. Choose your unique emerald diamond to fit 12 of our ring settings, including the luxuriously modern Architectural Trio Setting.
Radiant:
The radiant diamond features the sparkle and fire of a round cut, combined with a straight-edged shape and faceted corners for enhanced sparkle. Its square or rectangular outline gives the radiant cut a contemporary and unique feel that’s nonetheless timeless. Create the ring that’s authentically yours, with your unique radiant cut diamond in one of 11 settings.
Asscher:
The asscher diamond is very similar to an emerald cut, with modern, elegant step-cut facets and clean lines. It’s distinguished by its square shape. An asscher cut will beautifully highlight your diamond’s clarity, so opt for the highest clarity grade you can to make the most of a shape that’s luxurious in its simplicity. Your unique asscher diamond will fit 11 of our ring settings.
Marquise:
A distinctive, elongated shape that tapers to a point on both ends, the marquise diamond is sleek and elegant. With its elongated appearance, the marquise is perfect to create a larger look for your diamond carat weight. Look for ratios between 1.75 and 2.25 for the ideal balance, and select this unique shape in 7 of our compatible ring settings.
